KOTA KINABALU: Former chief minister Tun Sakaran Dandai was moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Gleneagles Hospital Kota Kinabalu here yesterday.

His son, Datuk Seri Nasir Sakaran, said the 91-year-old had been admitted to the private hospital last Wednesday as he is believed to be infected with Covid-19.

"He was stable during the admission, but yesterday he was moved to the ICU as doctors said he required close monitoring.

"We, his children, have made video calls to ask about his condition. Our father said he was in good condition, eating as usual and is well taken care of. Just now, I called him and he asked us to pray for his health," he said in a video.

Sakaran was the Semporna member of parliament from 1986 until 1995. He became the eighth Sabah chief minister from March to December 1994.

Between January 1995 and December 2002, he served as the eighth Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah.
