KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is not allowing inter-district travel in accordance with the state's regulations under Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
State Police Commissioner Datuk Idrus Abdullah said this when referring to a viral WhatsApp message about permission to travel inter-district within the state and car capacity.
"Police deny the viralled information, and investigation found that it is an old notice issued on May 6, 2020.
"However, it was spread again by irresponsible people," he said in a statement.
The standard operating procedures for Sabah under Phase Two of the NRP does not allow people to cross districts.
However, Idrus said exceptions are made for emergencies, work, vaccination, essential services, long-distance spouses or parents who would like to visit their under 18 children.
As for those fully vaccinated from the same household, they are allowed to travel together according to the recommended capacity of the car.
"The public is advised not to spread any unverified or false news as action can be taken under Section 233 Communications and Multimedia Act with a maximum fine of RM50,000 and one year's jail."
