KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is looking to create smart cities at several locations throughout the state.
Its Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the initiative would be led by the Digital Government Strategic Plan.
He said the development of smart cities was to create a digital economy ecosystem that would benefit the community.
Hajiji said the initiative was also in line with Sabah Maju Jaya's third thrust which was the Infrastructure Network and Green Sustainability.
"The strategy under the thrust covers efforts to build and improve land, sea, air and the communications infrastructure.
"It is also to implement digitalisation of the services; improve accessibility and equality in enjoying infrastructure facilities," he said during the launching of the E-Jariah Sabah application developed by Perbadanan Baitulmal Negeri Sabah (PBNS) and TM One at Menara Kinabalu here.
The E-Jariah application would help many do contributions via their mobile phones.
Hajiji added that the digital usage was being used widely and had changed the people's lifestyle.
"The Covid-19 pandemic has caused us to live in new norms by following standard operating procedures and thus digital applications have become new alternatives for us to fulfil our daily needs," he said.
