KOTA KINABALU: A newly launched Rural Travel Guide Book complements the current trend of visiting rural destinations.
The guide, which is available in hardcopy and as an e-book, is a compilation made by Federation of Rural Tourism Association Sabah (FERTAS) and its members.
Its president Walter Kandayon said the publication of the book was in line with the direction of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry to promote rural tourism in Sabah.
"This book is part of FERTAS initiatives to increase our promotion efforts and help to recover the domestic tourism sector that is affected by Covid-19 pandemic.
"This guide book is like a new beginning that will benefit the association and future tourists, in terms of early information for the experience and products offered at every district in Sabah," he said in the book.
The directory also features 37 places of interest as recommended by the tourism association from respective districts.
Walter also added that the contents of the book also include the explanation on culture, tradition, food, handicrafts and community lifestyle.
Tourism Malaysia Sabah director Mohd Faharuddin Hatmin said rural tourism was getting more popular.
"The tourism trend is facing changes as the people are now focusing on the safety aspect (due to Covid-19) while travelling.
"They want to look for places that are not crowded, not much visitation and surrounded by beautiful natural resources such as rivers, sea and forest.
"Therefore the publication of this guide is just right in time with the reopening of tourism activities. People can use it to plan their activities with family members and friends to explore new places including rural destinations."
