U-Mobile signed 3-year agreement for 5G Multi-operator Core Network Services

KUALA LUMPUR: U Mobile has secured a three-year 5G wholesale contract with Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) following a structured evaluation process, marking a key milestone for the country’s newest 5G network provider.

Under the agreement, U Mobile will provide end-to-end 5G Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) services, including provisioning, system integration, activation, testing and ongoing optimisation. The arrangement will enable TM to deliver scalable and high-quality 5G connectivity to its customers.

U Mobile said the appointment reflects its technical capabilities and progress in rolling out its 5G network, which is targeting 80 per cent coverage of populated areas (COPA) by the second half of 2026. The rollout is currently ahead of schedule.

Chief executive officer Wong Heang Tuck said the award underscores confidence in U Mobile’s next-generation 5G infrastructure and service capabilities.

“We are delighted to be appointed as TM’s 5G wholesale partner. The award is testament to the strength of our 5G network capabilities and our ability to deliver superior performance, reliability and robust security,” he said.

Wong said the partnership would support TM’s mobile competitiveness and convergence strategy while accelerating 5G adoption nationwide.

He added that the contract also highlights the importance of infrastructure competition in strengthening Malaysia’s telecommunications ecosystem.

“We are grateful to the government for the opportunity to operate within a dual-network landscape. We look forward to working closely with TM to drive innovation and create long-term value for the industry and the nation,” he said.
