KOTA KINABALU: The Health Ministry has called on medical officers appointed to Grade UD10 to report for duty immediately and complete the process at their respective Centres of Responsibility (PTj) by Oct 7.

In a statement today, the ministry said the appointments took effect on Sept 28, with officers offered placements through the ePlacement system.

"The reporting process for 4,255 medical officers appointed on a permanent basis under Phase 2/2026 is still ongoing," it said.

Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) president Dr L Sivanaesan previously said reports of a high number of medical officers failing to report for permanent postings in Sabah and Sarawak on Sept 28 should be taken seriously, particularly claims that some facilities received no new medical officers.

Previously, it was reported that the ministry planned to appoint 560 new permanent medical officers for Sabah from this month to help address the doctor shortage in the state.

Sabah MMA chairman Dr Brandon Patrick Senagang also said the majority of hospitals were losing medical officers, with only 47 of 138 medical officers from outside Sabah expected to report for hospital postings having done so when the figures were compiled.

"Based on information available to Sabah MMA involving hospital postings, 138 medical officers from outside Sabah were expected to report to hospitals across the state.

"But only 47 had reported for duty at the time the information was compiled — approximately 34 per cent," Brandon said in a separate statement.

The ministry urged all parties not to draw premature conclusions while the placement process was still underway.

"The process of medical officers reporting for duty at their respective placement facilities is still ongoing and has not yet been completed," it said.
